Mr. Weiner, did you miss this memo?
Well, maybe not on fire, but Anthony Weiner, what is going on in your pants? On second thought, I have no desire to know what’s going on in your pants. For the life of me I can’t figure out why everyone else is so interested in what’s going on in your pants. What is it you’re looking for anyway, instant gratification, psychological fornication, additional validation? You do realize you are a congressman? Get over yourself. The bigger problem is that in our techno-crazed social media society, Representative (for the moment) Weiner has the world-wide-web as a kind of show and tell playpen. And he apparently thinks the wide world has been waiting. WRONG! In other words, don’t give up your day job. Oh, that’s wrong too. Please, do give up your day job.
Here’s the thing. I personally do not care what he does with or in his underpants. That is between him and his wife. But for her sake, your sake and ours, keep it out of the social media. Realize, however, the problem is not the social media. The problem is the man. The biggest issue is the lying, the deceit. This is a man, sadly like so many before him, who was elected to public office to represent the People of New York State. New York, good luck. Is there some amnesia delivering substance in the water? Eliot Spitzer, Charlie Rangel, Chris Lee, now, Anthony Weiner, each one forgot who they were hired by the People to be. They forgot they had a responsibility to be ethical.
I believe the issue for the American public is the lying. You got caught with your pants down. Just ‘fess up. You can never again be a valued and viable representative of the People if they cannot believe and trust you. I am surprised to find myself suggesting anyone follow in the footsteps of former Representative Chris Lee (Reference my blog February 23, 2011: Dear Mrs. Lee ……)but, Representative Weiner, I have to say it, at least Mr. Lee just went away quietly, sooner rather than later. Can you not see the wisdom in that?
I just love how so many of the news anchors lament over Mr. Weiner’s poor wife. They opine as to her feelings now. They talk about her need for healing. Please. If we gave a damn about her, as we should, we would stop it right now. Stop the story. Stop the conjecture. Stop the chatter. James Carville suggested days ago on CNN that Representative Weiner just shut-up! I am suggesting that we all just shut-up. Report the end of the story when it ends, i.e. his resignation. Skip all the deleterious rambling on and on day after day to absolutely no end. If we truly want to spare this, by all accounts, bright, lovely woman, why don’t we all just shut-up? Hasn’t she suffered enough indignity at her husband’s hand? He certainly is in need of an ethics check. But maybe we are as well.
And remember, Mrs. Weiner, it may be hard to believe but this does not reflect upon you whatsoever. Your husband’s ethical GPS is in desperate need of a recalculation. Good luck with that. Your husband was a hero to so many people. I thought he was one of the good guys. And maybe he’s not a bad guy, just another stupid, sophomoric guy. Now I’m going to just shut up, right after I offer my heart-felt sympathy to Mrs. Weiner. Sorry you’re married to a narcissistic juvenile who, like so many before him, just can’t seem to keep it in his pants!

Hear, hear!
Liz and Heidi,
Thank you so much for your comments.
I look forward to your contribution on future blog posts.
Ethically yours,
Phyllis Kae
I wholeheartedly agree. I can’t understand why his constituents are supporting him, despite his behavior. Have the American people really come to expect this little from their politicians? Our standards seem to be shrinking. I found your blog after reading the article in this morning’s Philly Inquirer. Cheers, Heidi
